Durban Wine Cellar proposal

Four years of love, laughter, and shared dreams led to one unforgettable evening when we planned an intimate, breathtaking surprise marriage proposal for our client, Simeon. With Shanice’s birthday approaching in 5 months, Simeon knew he wanted to do more than celebrate another year of her life, he wanted to ask her to spend the rest of it with him.

From the very first consultation, it was clear that this proposal needed to feel deeply personal and elegant. Simeon envisioned something private and meaningful, a moment where the world would fade away and only the two of them would exist. We discussed options with Simeon and he decided on the perfect setting for them, a private garden gazebo.

On the evening of Shanice’s birthday, she was told she was heading out for a “quiet birthday surprise.”  As it happened, the weather turned, and it was not at all conducive to having an outdoor proposal followed by dinner in a garden.  We had booked an indoor alternative option just to be safe, and so the plans were quickly amended to accommodate the change in weather.  As Shanice descended into the private wine cellar, she was met with the soft glow of flickering candles reflecting off rows of aged wine bottles and the marry me sign lit up in front of her. She took in the scene, Simeon stepped forward, and surrounded by the intimate ambiance of the cellar, he spoke from the heart, reflecting on their four-year journey together, the growth, the memories, the unwavering love. Then, in a moment that felt suspended in time, he dropped to one knee and asked Shanice to marry him. Overcome with emotion and joy, she said yes, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their love story.

Immediately following the proposal, the celebration continued with a private photoshoot set right within the wine cellar, and they were also able to nip out to capture some pictures in the garden. Our professional photographer captured the raw emotion, the laughter, the happy tears, and the unmistakable glow of newly engaged love. These images told a story all their own, authentic, romantic, and timeless.

The evening then transitioned seamlessly into an exclusive fine dining experience, still within the intimate cellar space.  Dedicated wait staff attended to the couple, ensuring every need was met without intruding on their privacy. The multi-course dinner was curated to complement the setting. Each dish became a celebration, not just of Shanice’s birthday, but of love, commitment, and the future ahead.

As the night came to a close, Simeon and Shanice lingered, savouring both the flavours of the meal and the magnitude of the moment. What began as a birthday celebration became a memory they will cherish forever, a perfectly planned surprise proposal, wrapped in romance, elegance, and surrounded by warm candlelight. It was a beautiful reminder that when love meets thoughtful planning, magic truly happens.
