Alex and Louise wedding
On the 12th of December 2022, Alex and Louise tied the knot… finally!
This lovely couple had been through it all, Covid ruined their day a few times, with date changes, and cancellations, until we finally managed to set the date after 3 years and turn it into something magical.
The chosen venue was Blaauklippen in Stellenbosch, we used their stunning glass cathedral for the reception and lawns for the ceremony. With 94 guests, coming from all over the world, these jet setters had a fabulous wedding in the Winelands.
Both Alex and Louise live aboard, so we were hands-on in the planning of their wedding. For example, their decor mock-up was done over video. This did not stop them from being hands-on themselves, they had a vision for their wedding and we were there to execute it. We assisted plan the wedding and are there on the day for coordination. This is important for couples to know, we travel the whole planning journey together, from day one to the end.
They had a different style of wedding, compared to the usual South African format. The ceremony was held in the morning, followed by tea, at the grand swimming pool. By midday, guests departed the venue to relax and enjoy some spare time. They then returned later in formal wear for the pre-drinks and reception. The party carried on through the evening until 2 am. Due to sound restrictions in the area, music has to be turned off by 12 pm, but they wanted the party to continue, so a silent disco was introduced for the party animals who remained.
The couple got to know Barry, the minister, over the years, and a special relationship formed. They actually got married in Europe before the day and Barry did an amazing service for them at the ceremony.
Louise loves proteas so she wanted those to be incorporated into the flower arrangements. You will see the lovely arrangements in the ceremony photos. The reception roof is very high so that space needs to be filled, we used hanging baskets with loads of greenery to create a “secret forest dinner” effect. We kept the colours neutral with nude candles on the tables. Marida and Nico worked for days to create these amazing installations all over the venue. Well done team for a successful look and feel.
Johnny from Slippery Spoon was the caterer. For pre-drinks we had stations set up for guests to walk around and feast. The choices went from a braai station to a West Coast Mossel pot. They had a live kitchen inside the reception venue, this was where the final food was prepped and plated. It is fantastic to see this great chef in action. The service was a feast to tables, meaning platters were placed on the dinner tables for guests to help themselves. Items on the menu included yellowtail, steak florentine, heirloom tomatoes, and garden salads.
On the day, we had some “crazy” torrential rain which formed some funny stories for the guests. We arranged a tent the week before and by the wedding day, we knew the weather would be an issue during parts of the proceedings. The morning ceremony under the tent helped with shade and by lunctime, the heavens opened then magically disappeared when guests returned for the reception. Liam played live music at the pre-drinks, while they drank and ate to their heart’s desire.
We simply adore the photos and video, by Migeon and The Orpens, thank you for capturing their day so beautifully.
To Louise and Alex, the biggest congrats on your wedding. We loved working with you and enjoyed getting to know you over the years. May all your dreams come true!
We would like to thank all the suppliers, who assisted us with the wedding. We could not have done it without you.
